Sustainable Horticulture aims to create a harmonious environment that enables the production of quality fruits, vegetables and nuts of high nutritional value, and also quality flowers, turf and nursery products. Sustainable horticulture practices improve the economic vitality of orchards and other horticultural operations, conserve water and energy, maintain healthy soil, protect air and water quality, enhance relations with employees and communities, and preserve local ecosystems and wildlife habitat.
FireHawk Bioherbicide is an excellent fit with a sustainable horticultural regime as it not only delivers effective weed management and crop desiccation but also provides significant benefits to soil health and leverages the other sustainable horticultural practices.

Weed Control in Horticultural Operations
Weeds and grasses are typically desiccated using chemical herbicides like Paraquat, Glyphosate or Glufosinate in Australian horticultural operations. These herbicides are toxins and impact on the person handling and spraying these dangerous chemicals, on the environment, biodiversity and soil biology.
Herbicides like Paraquat are still used here but are forbidden in Europe and other countries due to their high toxicity. Many weeds and grasses like ryegrass have developed glyphosate resistance. Therefore a double knock of a Glyphosate spray followed by a Paraquat spray is typically used. Glyphosate takes out the broadleaf weeds. Paraquat kills the reminder of weeds including rye grass. We are using more and more chemical herbicides in our horticultural operations. There is a strengthening demand for effective non-toxic weed control from horticultural operators as they become more aware of global litigation and health concerns using toxic chemical herbicides. Chemical residues in horticultural produce is also becoming an increasing concern. Weeds and grasses are controlled in orchards using FireHawk Bioherbicide.
FireHawk Bioherbicide was applied as a 500ml FireHawk /10L water spray mixture at 750 - 1,000L/ha application rate using a conventional boom sprayer. Tractor speeds were 5-8 km/hr. FireHawk Bioherbicide delivers effective weed, grass and sucker control in the orchard and other horticultural operations. In addition to its desiccation performance, it is fully biodegradable, leaves no residues, and is people, livestock and environmentally friendly. It supports soil health in line with regenerative farming practices and has no withholding period. Nonanoic Acid, its active ingredient, occurs naturally in many food crops.
