Fleabane is an upright annual. It is a major weed of dryland cropping areas. It has been confirmed as glyphosate-resistant.
Fleabane affects crop production as it greatly reduces stored water supplies in fallows which affects subsequent crop emergence and growth. This species is also a prolific seed producer that can produce up to 120,000 seeds per plant. The size and morphology of the seeds enable them to dispersed long distances by both wind and water.
Widely naturalised in south-eastern Queensland, and particularly common in the Moreton district. Widely naturalised other parts of Australia (i.e. New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, many parts of Western Australia, and other parts of Queensland). Also naturalised on Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island.
